Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Group

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a exciting storyline showcasing angels, fiends, and dark forces increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure follow below.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The third episode finished on a huge suspense moment and introduced the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the central cast to begin their own adventure, distinct from the remaining groups.

This warrior group includes the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.

Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the party knows exactly where to head next after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—used the foes for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The traitor then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each member has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the region and advises that it is a nasty environment.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to execute the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their position as important members in the powerful family could enable the group access places they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him wherever.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The rogue and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.

This means them little choice but to travel to Timmony in search of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the cast members to round up the Explorers and Strategists parties.

Fans can expect learning which players will be where in the story’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
